Identifying and Managing Investment Risk in 2012
Australia's connections to broader global economy are stronger than ever before. While, on one hand, this fuels our economic growth and prosperity it also increased Australia's exposure to the investment and regulatory risk challenges buffeting international markets. This National Briefing will consider Australia's position in the global economy and identify and analyse the investment risk challenges that we are likely to confront in 2012 and beyond.
Discussion will focus on:
- The historical context - what did the banking & finance world look like 30 years ago, where is it now, where is it likely to go?
- The global risk landscape in 2012
- Understanding systemic risk and its impact on investment strategy
- The impact of changes such as demographic shifts and economic wealth distribution patterns

Presenters
Nick Bullman, CheckRisk
Nick founded Bullman Investment Management in February 2009, and later CheckRisk LLP to develop his risk approach. Prior to this, Nick was the Chairman of Investor Select Advisors. Nick has also worked for Kitcat and Aitken, stockbrokers in London, Scrimgeour Vickers, James Capel Pacific, Goldman Sachs and TIR. Nick is a guest lecturer on risk at the University of Bath, School of Management.
Mark Kritzman, Windham Capital Management, LLC (live via video Melbourne & Sydney only)
Mark is Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Windham Capital Management. He is also a Founding Partner of State Street Associates, and he teaches a graduate course in financial engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mark has served on several corporate and non-profit boards, including the Institute for Quantitative Research in Finance, The Investment Fund for Foundations, and State Street Associates.
Mike Ritchie, KPMG Financial Risk Management
Mike is focussed on the design and implementation of effective and efficient Risk Management and Compliance frameworks for clients in such diverse industries as Banking and Finance, Government, Telecommunications and Mining. Mike has over sixteen years Risk Management experience both as a consultant and commercially and has been involved in creating or refining the design of Basel II Compliant Risk Management frameworks for major banks in Australia and internationally.
